Sushi in antisemitic sauce – using racism and Holocaust denial to profit and promote a bar just across from a synagogue.

In Kraków’s Kazimierz district – the city’s historic Jewish quarter – right across from the Old Synagogue, a landmark symbolizing Jewish life in Poland, there is a bar called Sushi Show & Ramen Star [1]. We are writing about it because of its business and political model. The bar’s social media accounts are filled with short videos styled as parodies. Humor is a wonderful thing, and an unconventional approach to advertising also. The problem is that in this case, instead of parody, we get extreme antisemitism and Holocaust denial, created by people who have clearly plunged deep into the antisemitic corners of the internet.

In the reels and videos posted on the bar’s profile, a man regularly appears dressed up as a stereotypical Jew: fake payot, a hat, and an exaggerated accent. He plays roles built on the crudest 19th‑century antisemitic tropes – greedy, deceitful, and caricature‑like. [2]

The comments under these videos are full of openly antisemitic remarks, often marked with a heart or replied to by the bar’s account. Many refer to “6 million” and “271 thousand,” such as in this exchange:
– “Can you deliver 6 million burgers in 5 weeks?”
– “For 271 thousand.”

Or in a highlighted comment with a heart reaction: “6 million sushi in 5 years? The most we can produce is 271 thousand.” [3]

This is a direct reference to a conspiracy theory popular in Holocaust‑denial circles, which falsely claims that the number of Jews killed in the Holocaust was not 6 million, but “at most 271 thousand.” This fabrication has long been used by the far right to undermine the reality of Nazi crimes and has been thoroughly debunked by historians. We recommend here a recent publication by the Auschwitz Museum, which compiles the most common lies about the Holocaust and explains why and how deniers spread them. [4]

One of the videos also uses the song Was wollen wir trinken – a pacifist workers’ song from the 1970s that has since been appropriated by neo‑Nazi circles and online extremists, especially on TikTok and YouTube, where it serves as a “legal” substitute for banned Nazi songs. A false claim has been circulated that it was the anthem of the Luftwaffe. This is a so‑called dog whistle — a message recognizable to those “in the know,” but defensible if the creator is accused of promoting Nazi content. [5]

But it doesn’t stop there. Comments marked with a heart by the bar’s account often come from profiles that openly identify with the far right [6]. In one video, a viewer comments on a scene where the man dressed as a stereotypical Jew crawls toward scattered coins: “Respect for the crawling Jew.”

This comment, too, was marked with a heart by the creators. The image of a Jew as a crawling, reptilian creature is a long‑used tool of dehumanization, likening Jews to snakes, rats, and other treacherous, inhuman forces. Even in their own videos, Jewish passers‑by are shown looking at the filming with sadness, disapproval, and most likely fear. [7]

There is also a separate category of photos and graphics from World War II, including an image of a German soldier abusing a Jewish child — again marked with a heart. When someone comments expressing admiration for the antisemitism and racism on display, the creators respond and mark those comments with hearts as well. [8]

In several comments, the bar attempts to defend itself by claiming that the creator of these videos “is Jewish, so he can’t be antisemitic.” This is a textbook example of dismissing antisemitism, in direct contradiction to the basic facts about this form of racism. Antisemitism is not determined by someone’s background, but by their actions and intentions — and in this case, those are perfectly clear. [9]

These videos are the bar’s most popular content, with very high view counts. This is a promotion model built on cynical calculation: the more controversial, the more engagement. The more hatred, the greater the reach. This type of content feeds on TikTok’s attention economy — and does so without facing any consequences.

The question of whether the creators are deeply familiar with antisemitic symbolism and produce this content simply because they are antisemites and neo‑Nazis, or whether they do it out of “curiosity” and a belief that “you can joke about anything,” is ultimately irrelevant. The outcome is the same: the normalization, promotion, and monetization of extreme racism, antisemitism, and Holocaust denial.

The most dangerous mechanism at work here is the sense of community that antisemites and racists feel when they see how many positive comments and heart reactions these videos receive, combined with the sense of impunity that comes from the fact that the videos are not removed and almost no one in the comments criticizes them. This signals that such content has not crossed any line — that it is still acceptable. Fueled by this environment, those driven by hate will seek to push the boundaries further, radicalizing themselves even more, which inevitably leads to violence against Jews and anyone perceived as Jewish — not only online, but in the real world.

This bar and its content are not isolated cases — such material is increasingly filling both our digital and physical environments. The boundaries saying “Stop” were crossed long ago, and the tools provided by the state and businesses to stop hate are largely illusory. Reporting hate speech to social media platforms hardly works. The justice system, which fails to stop Grzegorz Braun — a fascist, violent, antisemitic politician in Poland, is even more powerless in cases like this.

We don’t have a magic solution to stop hate, nor even a ready answer for this particular problem raised here today. All we have is the same message we try to convey in every text: we see this evil, we respond to it, we want to stop it. We live under a growing pressure of hate and racism that is becoming unbearable. There are no signs on the horizon that this situation will improve.

We believe one of the most important things we can do in this situation is to create and use shelters, safe communities, and spaces where we can hide, rest, and regain strength. We will write soon about one such place and community!
