„Sitwa (jid. szitwes, z hebr. szuttafuth: spółka) Nazywa się tak grupę wzajemnie popierających się osób dążących do osiągnięcia własnych korzyści wbrew interesowi społecznemu.” Tak też jest z nami, mimo że antysemityzm jest silny i tolerowany w obecnym społeczeństwie, my działamy razem by z nim walczyć.

Plakaciary against Israel – an antisemitic X-mas action

— The feminist initiative “Plakaciary”, engaged in social activism using street art methods, boasted on its Instagram profile about their X-mas action targeting Israel [1]. In their post, Plakaciary complain about the lack of Christmas in Bethlehem, blaming for it – Israel. We are appalled that a social initiative, which aims, among other things, to promote feminism and combat violence against women and sexual minorities, while rightly criticizing Catholic tradition, is spreading antisemitic content, while linking it to a long tradition of Christian anti-Judaism.

— The content promoted by Plakaciary has unambiguously antisemitic overtones, demonizing the State of Israel and denying its right to exist. You can find classic allegations of genocide against the state, which on October 7, 2023 was brutally attacked by Palestinian terrorist organizations like Hamas and Islamic Jihad, and to this day defends itself against attacks by the Islamist “axis of resistance” led by the anti-feminist regime of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which upholds gender apartheid in Iran and since 2022 has brutally suppressed the pro-feminist movement Jin, Jiyan, Azadî, i.e. Woman, Life, Freedom. As a reminder, Palestinian terrorist organizations continue to hold abducted hostages in the Gaza Strip. Their release by Hamas is a prerequisite for the peace process.

— Among the slogans used by Plakaciary we find the slogan “76 years of occupation”, which refers to the year of the founding of the State of Israel, 1948, implying that the State of Israel has been allegedly occupying Palestine since its establishment. In other words, the slogan “76 years of occupation” expresses a fundamental disagreement with the existence of the Jewish state, identifying its very existence with an occupation. In this context, slogans like “Free Palestine” cannot mean anything else than a Palestine free of Israel, the world’s only Jewish state. Calling for the destruction of the State of Israel is antisemitism.

— Among the used slogans, we find also one that vividly depicts the essence of so-called Israel-related antisemitism – “Israel = murderer”. Since the poster action against Israel took place during the X-mas and alludes to the central Christian rite, it is worth recalling that the attribution of an essential lust for murder to Jews has its origins in Christian anti-Judaism, at the root of which is the charge of “murder of Christ.” Hence, in the Polish antisemitic tradition, strongly rooted in Christian anti-Judaism, the image of the “murderer Jew” murdering innocent Polish/Christian children was widespread. The equation “Israel = murderer” is based on this traditional anti-Jewish resentment, which here becomes directed at the Jewish state, that is, in anti-Semitic optics, at the “collective Jew.” This resentment leads, among other things, to false accusations of genocide, with deceitful reference to an alleged UN Criminal Court ruling on that matter [2].

— In addition, in the comments under the post regarding their own hate campaign against Israel, Plakaciary espouse the view that “big corporations and countries like the US depend on Israel”, thus echoing classic antisemitic notions of a “worldwide Jewish conspiracy” and enormous Jewish influence, supposedly manifested in the “power of money” and big corporations [3]. Plakaciary also support comments with the slogan “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” [4], which calls for the destruction of the State of Israel, making it considered criminal incitement to violence and hate speech in the Netherlands, Austria, the US, Germany or the Czech Republic, as well as by many social media platforms.

— In the same comments, Plakaciary join the promotion of an international campaign calling for the boycott of Israel, i.e. BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions), which in its nature is reminiscent of the National Socialist campaigns of the kind of “Don’t buy from a Jew” or similar boycott actions of Polish pre-war fascists and antisemites from the ONR [5]. So let us remind you that the BDS campaign is unequivocally antisemitic, and its goal is to annihilate the State of Israel as a Jewish state. BDS’s founding organizations include Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, organizations responsible for the most horrible massacre of Jews since the Shoah.

— As a left-wing initiative to combat antisemitism in Wroclaw, we regret that Plakaciary are once again joining the campaign of hatred against the world’s only Jewish state, this time making additional use of the Catholic tradition, which, due to its regressive nature in the subject of gender relations and social roles, and due to the violence it causes, has repeatedly been the subject of rightful criticism on the side of Plakaciary. This shows once again that hatred of Jews allows one to turn a blind eye to the use of anti-feminist traditions. It also leads to turning a blind eye to the violence caused by anti-feminist Islamist ideology, which is responsible for violence against women and sexual minorities in countries in the MENAT region. Women and sexual minorities in Gaza are also its victims. The ideology of antisemitism – responsible for the brutal rape and murder of Israeli women during the Hamas terrorist massacre in Israel on October 7, 2023, but also for the attacks on and discrimination against Jewish women in Poland – cannot be part of the feminist struggle but must become the target of feminist criticism.

We believe that feminism – one of the most important and beautiful ideas – can, and should fight against antisemitism.
Feminism free of antisemitism!
